A six-member delegation from Crime Kowloon East (KE) Regional Headquarters, comprising officers of Regional Crime Unit 3 which was a Force-designated unit for deterring telephone deception, visited the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau (PSB) on September 9. The two sides exchanged views on the latest trends and modus operandi of telephone scams in an attempt to formulate strategies to curb this cross-jurisdictional crime.

Speaking at the meeting, the head of CID, Mr Li Ping, discussed with the delegation on the issues of fraud prevention, intelligence exchange and law enforcement. The delegates looked forward to closer co-operation with Shenzhen PSB, and both sides reinforced the two-way Speedy Intelligence Exchange Mechanism. The delegates also took the occasion to visit the Anti Social Engineering Fraud Centre in Shenzhen, which was open in August.

Earlier in August, Crime KE visited the CID under the Ministry of Public Security in Beijing to discuss strategies to combat cross-boundary telephone fraud. Then they participated in an INTERPOL working group meeting in Seoul in late August to share Hong Kong's successful experience and strive for international collaboration.
