Airport District (APTDIST) participated in the Annual Aircraft Crash and Rescue Exercise at the Hong Kong International Airport on October 19. The exercise was co-ordinated by the Airport Authority to provide opportunities for the airport community, government departments and related organisations to strengthen co-operation and familiarise themselves with the emergency procedures in dealing with an aircraft accident.

The exercise simulated a scenario of an aircraft crashing into the middle bridge of a parking stand at Midfield Concourse Apron. Officers from various units of APTDIST as well as other stakeholders, including the Civil Aviation Department, Fire Services Department, Auxiliary Medical Service, Hospital Authority, Home Affairs Department, were deployed to tackle different tasks - crash and rescue, care for the injured, handling of passengers, family reception and media arrangement.

The exercise offered a good opportunity for the participating units to hone their skills in executing their contingency plans in regard to the command, control and inter-departmental co-ordination in an aircraft accident.
