In order to enhance the knowledge of mentally incapacitated persons (MIPs) about the Force, the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) joined hands with Sau Mau Ping District (SMPDIST) to organise a visit for 60 MIPs to SMP Police Station on November 23.

SMPDIST Police Community Relations Officers introduced to the visitors various station facilities, including the report room, interview room, loading and unloading area and police vehicles. Uniformed officers then showed them their daily patrol equipment. The visitors were invited to follow the reporting procedures to make a mock report in the report room in a bid to let them know how officers handle public reports.

Afterwards, PPRB officers explained to the visitors a package of new initiatives recently launched by the Working Group to Review the Care of Mentally Incapacitated Persons. They quoted the Care Card Scheme as an example to show that the Force caters for the needs of different sectors of the community. The new initiatives enabled frontline officers to identify MIPs as early as possible and render appropriate assistance to them.

The social workers, who accompanied the visitors, commented that the visit had not only enhanced communication between the Force and the MIP community, but also assisted the MIPs to integrate into the community.
