The Shatin District Junior Police Call (STDIST JPC) Honorary Presidents Council brought their safe cycling project, Smart Rider, to a successful conclusion by breaking the Guinness world record for the largest safe cycling class. Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Lau Yip-shing was one of the officiating guests at the ceremony at the Shatin Racecourse on November 19.

With the help of volunteers from STDIST and the Hong Kong Cycling Team, a total of 504 persons, mainly JPC members, attended the cycling lesson to set the new record. Hong Kong professional racing cyclist Lee Wai-sze attended the event to support the participants. She reminded all cyclists of the importance of wearing a helmet when cycling.

Some 500 parents came to share the joy with their children and to witness the organiser's announcement of the cyclists setting the Guinness world record. Another 200 guests, including Sha Tin District Councillors adjudicated at the record attempt, also attended the announcement ceremony.
