To increase Mainland exchange students and local university students' vigilance of telephone frauds and burglaries at village houses, Acting Chief Inspector of Kowloon East (KE) Regional Crime Prevention Office Wong Poon-yam and Inspector Yu Shing-lam from Tseung Kwan O Division jointly gave a crime prevention talk for over a hundred students at the orientation dinners of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) on February 8 and 13.

On February 9, the two inspectors gave another briefing to the representatives of various Mainland student associations of HKUST about the local crime trend and measures to prevent thefts at campus and the modus operandi of telephone deception. Officers also distributed leaflets and put up posters about the prevention of telephone deception at students' hostels, and played anti-telephone scam video at lift lobbies to disseminate anti-crime messages.
