Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) invited Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) students of Project Gemstone to assist in disseminating crime prevention messages in three crowd management operations during Christmas and Chinese New Year.

During Christmas Countdown 2016, New Year Eve's Countdown and Fireworks Display 2016 as well as Chinese New Year Fireworks Display 2017, the NEC students set up Information Booths at three locations in Tsim Sha Tsui, and distributed leaflets on traffic arrangements carrying details of road closure as well as fliers about "Be a Smart Tourist" and "Beware of Pickpockets".

Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Lau Yip-shing, Director of Operations Tang Ping-keung, Regional Commander of Kowloon West Cheuk Hau-yip, YTDIST Commander Kwok Pak-chung, and YTDIST Deputy District Commander Kerry Carew visited the Information Booths at different intervals to show their support for the student volunteers.
