The Operations Wing of Hong Kong Island Region (OPS HKI) conducted Exercise MATCHSTRIKER on March 8 with an aim to raising officers' counter terrorism awareness and to strengthening co-ordination among the relevant units in handling terrorist attacks.

The exercise featured a simulated terrorist attack about three armed suspects storming a school, and attacking teachers and students with knives. After the Regional Command and Control Centre (RCCC) received 999 emergency calls, they immediately deployed officers from the local division, Emergency Unit (EU) and Counter Terrorism Response Unit (CTRU) to tackle the incident. Over 100 officers from RCCC HKI, Happy Valley Division, EU HKI and CTRU as well as some staff members of the school joined the exercise.

All officers involved found the scenario realistic, enabling them to identify rooms for improvement in respect of their tactics and ways of communication. The school also treasured this opportunity to review and enhance their own emergency evacuation plan.
