Kowloon East (KE) Region held a ground-breaking ceremony for its new Regional Headquarters (HQ) complex on March 21 to mark the commencement of the $3.2 billion project. KE Regional Commander Duncan McCosh officiated at the ceremony alongside Project Director of the Architectural Services Department Mr Chak Wing-pong as well as Chairman and Directors of the joint construction venture.

The KE Regional Units are currently spread across various locations: KE Regional Commander's office and the Administration and Operations Wings in Tseung Kwan O; the Police Tactical Unit in Kwun Tong; the Emergency Unit and Traffic Formation in Kowloon Bay; and Crime KE units in Tsz Wan Shan. The construction of the new complex enables all Regional Units to come under one roof, and thus enhance communication, co-ordination and the overall operational efficiency of the units.

The new complex, which is being built at the site of the demolished Kai Tak Operational Base, will house KE Regional HQ and KE Regional Units as well as the Police Station of Ngau Tau Kok Division, Railway District HQ and the Indoor Firing Range. The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019, and the complex is scheduled to be open by early 2020.

Mr McCosh took the ceremony to strengthen ties with stakeholders and community leaders, including the District Officers concerned of the Home Affairs Department and Chairmen of the relevant District Councils and District Fight Crime Committees.
