The School of Foundation Training (SFT) of the Police College organised two trail walks on April 8 and 29 in conjunction with Wai Ji Christian Service (WJCS), with 152 police trainees accompanying 118 mentally incapacitated persons (MIPs) to take a walk around Shing Mun Reservoir.

Led by instructors from SFT and social workers of WJCS, the event provided an opportunity for the MIPs to break through their physical obstacles with the assistance of the police trainees. The participants encouraged each other throughout the 8.5-kilometre journey. Some trainees propelled wheelchairs uphill to enable the wheelchair users to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the reservoir.

By taking care of the MIPs, the police trainees had a better understanding of the needs of MIPs and they are prepared to apply their experience to their frontline jobs in future.
