The Police College arranged for Station Sergeants Lee Ngar-kuen and Mak Yiu-sing to participate in a Sergeant Qualifying Program at the Victoria Police Academy in Melbourne, Australia from June 19 to 30.

The course aims to equip trainees with leadership and management skills in contemporary policing management. It covers the modern concepts, policies and practices of performance management, complaint management as well as leadership management. Ms Lee and Mr Mak made use of the opportunity to exchange views with 21 Sergeants from different divisions in Victoria through case analysis, group discussion, practical exercises and workshops.

The Hong Kong officers also visited various police units in Victoria to get to know their daily work. In particular, they had a chance to take a helicopter ride to learn about the tactics against suspect vehicle pursuit. Both officers said that the course had strengthened their leadership abilities and enhanced their personal development at managerial and working levels.
