Marine North Division (MNDIV) conducted an annual inter-departmental fire drill with Tai Po East Fire Station of the Fire Services Department (FSD) at Shuen Wan Typhoon Shelter in Sam Mun Tsai on June 23. Over 20 marine police officers and firemen participated in the exercise whilst members of the local fishing community were invited to observe the drill.

The exercise aimed at testing the participating units' ability of handling emergencies, strengthening inter-departmental communication as well as raising the community's fire prevention awareness. It simulated a fishing vessel on fire and a person falling overboard. Firemen boarded a police launch to put out the fire while the Diving Unit of the FSD carried out an underwater search for the simulated victim.

After the exercise, Divisional Commander of MNDIV Ip Chi-kuen and Divisional Officer of New Territories East Division of the FSD Leung Lung-kei praised the officers for their professionalism, skillfulness and promptness displayed in the fire drill.
