The Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC), under the auspices of the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB), has come into operation to co-ordinate police efforts in stepping up actions against deception and raising public awareness of various types of scams.

Officiating at the opening ceremony of the ADCC at the Police Headquarters on July 20, Director of Crime and Security Au Chi-kwong said that the opening of the ADCC showed the determination of the Police to safeguard the property of the general public, and symbolised a new phase of collaboration of the Force and various stakeholders to fight scams.

The ADCC carries out the following tasks: (i) to formulate and implement strategic directions to combat deception; (ii) to provide instant telephone consultation service on counterfeiting through its "Anti-Scam Helpline 18222" in a bid to render timely assistance to those in need; (iii) to enhance co-ordination amongst the Force, other government departments, and local and overseas law enforcement authorities to combat and prevent deception; (iv) to co-ordinate with the relevant units of the Force to launch anti-deception publicity and education campaigns and to provide immediate support to frontline police units; and (v) to monitor and analyse the trend of deception cases, make risk assessment and take timely actions.

Representatives from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Office of the Communications Authority, the Communications Association of Hong Kong, local banking sector and international law enforcement agencies in Hong Kong also attended the opening ceremony.
