In light of global terrorist threats, the Force held a joint counter-terrorism exercise codenamed "SPEARDRAGON" with the support of the MTR Corporation at Hong Kong MTR Station on July 21. Taking part in the exercise were Railway District, the Counter Terrorism Response Unit, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, the Emergency Unit of Hong Kong Island and the Police Dog Unit.

The exercise aimed to test and enhance the command and control ability of commanders of specialist and frontline units, develop frontline officers' professional knowledge, skills and tactics in handling terrorist incidents, as well as strengthen co-ordination and communication between the Force and the MTR Corporation.

To maintain a high degree of vigilance and a state of operational readiness, the Force conducts exercises regularly to review and optimise its counter-terrorism contingency plans and to enhance co-ordination with private organisations.
