Following the commencement of the new academic year, the Police Sports Council (PSC) continues to render full support to the Active School Programme by providing diversified sports training for primary and secondary students this year with a view to "Engaging the Community through Sports".

With the support of various police sports clubs, three sports games, namely rope course, hockey and judo, are introduced to schools this academic year alongside with seven regular sports of archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, football, karate-do and volleyball.

The Launching Ceremony for Phase 2017/18 of the Active School Programme took place on August 30, with Chairman of the PSC Mr Lui Hon-kwok and Vice-Chairman of the PSC Mr Cheuk Hau-yip as guests. Chairperson of the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association Ms Chan Lim-chee and Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the Active School Programme Mr Ng Sau-kei thanked the PSC for their continued support and adding new elements to the programme, enabling the students to try different sports and enjoy the games. A total of 100 primary and secondary schools would participate in the programme this academic year.

The Active School Programme is run by the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association. The PSC has been one of the supporting organisations of the programme since 2015, together with the backing of the Education Bureau and Home Affairs Bureau. To best suit the needs of the students, the police sports clubs have tailor-made training programmes for students at different levels to help them generate interest in sports, strengthen partnership with the students and promote the image of the Force.

Last year, police coaches from the Police Basketball Club, Police Karate-do Club, Police Badminton Club, Police Archery Club, Police Athletics Club, Police Volleyball Club and Police Football Club had provided sports training to 20 schools. The police sports clubs also arranged the students to receive football and archery training at the Police Sports and Recreation Club. The students enjoyed the games and appreciated the related officers' efforts.
