Police Dragon Boat Charity Race 2017 concluded on October 14 at Shing Mun River, Sha Tin. With overwhelming support from over 1 000 participants, the race raised a record donation of over $700,000. All funds, after deduction of expenses incurred for the event, will be passed to two beneficiaries, namely the Police Education and Welfare Trust as well as the Hong Kong Mucopolysaccharidoses and Rare Genetic Diseases Mutual Aid Group.

Despite the approach of Typhoon Khanun on the event day, paddlers from 74 teams fully displayed their sportsmanship and perseverance in the race. Commissioner Lo Wai-chung and members of Senior Directorate Group (SDG) showed their support to the paddlers on the spot. Representatives of the beneficiaries were also present to cheer on the teams and expressed their immense gratitude to the Force as well as the donors.

A highlight of the day was the Chairman Bowl race as teams comprising Directorate Grade Officers, various police staff associations, Auxiliary Police Club and Administrative Service Association exerted full power right from the start of the 300-metre race until the finishing line. Teams came very close and finally the Junior Police Officers' Association won the race, followed by the Hong Kong Police Inspectors' Association and Auxiliary Police Club.

The Commissioner and SDG members were invited to present trophies to the winners. The Police Dragon Boat Club thanked the participants for their support and donation, and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers who assisted to make this annual event a success.
