Shatin District (STDIST) conducted an inter-sectoral chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) exercise, codenamed "REDFOG", at the Hong Kong Science Park on November 18 to test the responsiveness of officers and interoperability amongst units, departments and stakeholders concerned.

The exercise simulated a chemical explosion in a laboratory of the Science Park, causing injuries to a number of staff members. This invoked the CBRN sanitising protocol of the Force and Fire Services Department (FSD).

The Emergency Unit of New Territories South (NTS) and STDIST rushed to the scene to evacuate the victims and investigate the incident. A sanitation area was set up in the site with the assistance of FSD. Police officers and firemen then conducted a search inside the building to ensure that there were no other injured persons and that the danger had been averted. Other participants included the Police Tactical Unit of NTS and security office of Science Park. Members of Sha Tin District Fight Crime Committee were invited as observers.
