Officers of New Territories South Regional Crime Headquarters (CRM NTS) received a shield and a thank-you letter from a Mainland citizen, Mr Lu, and his family, on December 5, 2017, in recognition of their professionalism in investigating a case of "Crime Alleged to have Occurred Outside Hong Kong".

On November 18, Shatin District (STDIST) received a suspected "Kidnapping" report about a college student went missing in the Mainland and was believed to have been taken to Hong Kong. The culprits claimed that they were Public Security Bureau officers and asked for ransom from the victim's family. Following investigation, officers of CRM NTS quickly uncovered a credit card transaction of the victim made at a hotel in Kowloon and then rescued the victim. Subsequent enquiries revealed that the culprits deceived the victim by telling her that she was involved in a medical insurance fraud and told her to stay in a hotel in Kowloon. The telephone deception case was thus detected.
