Commissioner Lo Wai-chung hosted a reception for the Consular Corps in Hong Kong at the ceremonial area of the Police Headquarters on the evening of March 9 as part of the Force's continuing efforts to strengthen ties with these partners.

With light music played by the Police Silver Band as background, Mr Lo and Senior Directorate Group officers greeted more than 100 diplomats from nearly 80 countries and officially recognised bodies, as well as other honourable guests. The gathering underscored the partnership between the Force and the foreign missions. Also attending the reception were officials from the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and local government departments.

Extending a warm welcome to the guests, Mr Lo reiterated that Hong Kong remained a safe city with its overall crime figures falling to the lowest level since 1975. He pledged to maintain law and order, and reaffirmed that the Force has the capability, confidence and determination to protect life and property in the city. He also expressed sincere thanks to the Consular Corps for their support and co-operation over the years.

Consul-General of the Argentine Republic Mr Gustavo Fazzari, in the capacity of Doyen of the Consular Corps, expressed appreciation for the Force's support to the diplomatic community and looked forward to closer collaboration with the Force.

The reception was an excellent opportunity for the Force and other government officials to exchange views with the diplomatic missions in Hong Kong.
