A Senior Inspector and two Inspectors from the Traffic Department of Macao joined 11 recruits of the Force Escort Group (FEG) to attend a Police Motorcycle VIP Escort Training Course in Hong Kong from May 7 to 11.

The course, conducted by Officer-in-Charge of FEG Chik Ming-yam and member of FEG Headquarter Team Chan King-sheung, covered the organisation, structure and roles of the FEG, motorcade escort tactics as well as planning and carrying out motorcade escorts. This was followed by a demonstration of riding skills and road training exercises that simulated how the FEG carries out VIP escorts. The Macao officers were also shown traffic protective gear, law enforcement equipment and vehicles of the Force.

The participants from Macao and Hong Kong had good exchanges of escort tactics. The roles and functions of the escort officers in Macao are similar to those of FEG. Eight traffic police officers are solely responsible for the escort of the current and former Chief Executives of Macao. Other experienced traffic officers may be mobilised for escort duties in the event of VIP visits. Outside these tasks, the officers perform regular traffic enforcement duties.

Upon completion of the course, Senior Inspector Chan Chi-fui from Macao thanked FEG members for arranging the course. He and his teammates treasured this opportunity to enhance their capabilities in preparation for the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region in 2019.
