Crime officers of New Territories (NTN) visited a centre of the Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Services (HKSEDS) in Kwai Chung on June 26 to learn more about guide dog services. HKSEDS is one of the only two organisations in Hong Kong providing guide dog training and matching services to the visually impaired.

Led by Superintendent (Administration and Support) (Crime NTN) Shum Hoi-kwong, the officers met a trainer, Bowie, to better understand the difficulties of living with sight loss. Bowie shared the do's and don't's when encountering a person with a guide dog in the street. The officers also watched a short clip depicting real-life scenarios and daily challenges faced by the visually impaired. The officers learned more about the constraints faced by the physically disabled with a guide dog in simple daily tasks, such as getting in line at a bus stop or finding a seat on a minibus.

As a wrap up for the event, the officers met with a foster parent, Meicy, and her 10-month-old Labrador, Don Don. On top of sharing her experience of raising a guide dog and the challenges faced, Meicy expressed her gratitude to the officers for their concern about the visually impaired and guide dogs.
