Director of the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) Lau Chi-wai renewed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic co-operation with Charles Sturt University (CSU) in July. This showed HKPC's commitment to strengthening collaboration with reputable tertiary institutions in developing police professionals.

To this end, Senior Superintendent Lam Suk-man and Senior Inspector Tse Wai-luen of HKPC visited the CSU in Canberra, Australia, from July 17 to 20 and reached an agreement with the CSU to provide better support for officers studying their programmes.

The CSU is a reputable tertiary institution offering policing-related programmes. In 2013, HKPC signed a MoU with the CSU for five years to articulate the Probationary Inspector Course to a Master of Leadership and Management (Policing) with credit exemption.

Under the new MoU, several courses of HKPC would be articulated to seven Master's programmes of the CSU. These programmes cover Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing; Intelligence Analysis; Emergency Management; Fraud and Financial Crime; Investigations; Leadership and Management (Policing and Security); and Terrorism and Security Studies.

Apart from the CSU, the HKPC has also run collaborative programmes with the University of Cambridge and the Canadian Police College, and has reached articulation arrangements with The University of Hong Kong (HKU), The Open University of Hong Kong, HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education as well as the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. These efforts reflect HKPC's determination to support officers to pursue lifelong learning and continuous education.
