Regional Commander of New Territories South (RC NTS) Patrick Laidler attended the Commonwealth Studies Conference 2018 in the United Kingdom (UK) in May. The conference was held by Common Purpose, an international leadership development organisation.

The theme for this year's conference was "What makes a city resilient?". Under the programme, Mr Laidler and 80 attendees from across the globe visited a number of organisations on the provision of policing, transportation, elderly care, and housing services to the public.

Speaking after the conference, Mr Laidler commented that he treasured the opportunity to communicate with leaders from a range of cultural backgrounds and to consider the challenges faced by other major cities. He said, "I particularly enjoyed meeting members of the public and hearing their views on how service providers are doing. I also found working with so many talented leaders from around the world inspirational."
