Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) conducted a counter-terrorism (CT) exercise at the Sha Chau Radar Station, a Key Point and Critical Infrastructure, on August 24. The exercise aimed at raising CT awareness, and testing and enhancing the communication and interoperability of the related police units in handling terrorist incidents.

The exercise involved over 60 officers from Patrol Sub-Unit of Castle Peak Division (PSU CPKDIV), Emergency Unit (EU) and Quick Reaction Force of New Territories North (NTN), Counter Terrorism Response Unit (CTRU), Marine West Division and Small Boat Division (SBDIV).

The exercise simulated several terrorists launching an attack on an aviation radar system on Sha Chau in a bid to interrupt the operation of the Hong Kong International Airport. The terrorists sneaked into a control room of the Sha Chau Radar Station and threatened hostages with knives and firearms. EU NTN and PSU CPKDIV rushed to the scene to rescue and were reinforced by CTRU and SBDIV. Through professional and tactical deployment, the officers subdued the terrorists and rescued the hostages.

TMDIST Deputy Commander David Fremaux praised the officers for their professionalism. The exercise had consolidated the capabilities of these police units in tackling terrorist incidents.
