Assistant Commissioner (Support) Lam Hiu-tong led a delegation of the Support Wing and the Information Systems Wing to visit Shanghai and Suzhou from November 18 to 21. The delegates learned about the development of innovation and technology and smart policing initiatives in these cities with a view to examining the feasibility of implementing similar measures in Hong Kong.

The delegation called on frontline public security units, Traffic Police Headquarters and the Special Police Department in Shanghai to hear about their experience in implementing smart policing initiatives. They also exchanged views with officers in police stations and control centres about adopting smart policing practices.

Meanwhile, the delegates also participated in the International Academic Workshop on Police Education organised by the Shanghai Police College. They discussed with law enforcement representatives from various countries and regions to explore the application of technology in policing and its way forward.

The delegates were inspired by what they saw in the visit. They would continue to study the application of policing technologies in Hong Kong.
