The launching of a new model of road safety bus on November 29 has turned a new page in the promotion of road safety in Hong Kong. With the provision of a lecture room, a simulated driving game, a road safety quiz game, interactive games and facilities for people with disabilities, the bus will be used to spread road safety messages to road users of different age groups throughout the territory.

Assistant Commissioner (Support) Lam Hiu-tong, Commissioner of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol Dr Hung Wai-man as well as the Supervisor, Principal and Chairperson of Parent-Teacher Association of the Rosaryhill School in Wan Chai presided over the launching ceremony of the 11-metre-long single-decker at the school. A group of children dressed in traffic police costumes also attended the event.

The Force started making use of a road safety bus as early as the 1970s. The bus has been deployed to schools, housing estates, youth centres and community centres for promoting road safety messages to the community, especially children. Over the past 15 years, the old-model road safety bus has served over 660 000 people.
