Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) launched a training series to strengthen knowledge management and gear up new Police Constables to deal with common incidents.

As a psychiatric hospital is located in KWTDIST, one of the most common reports received by officers is about suspected mentally disordered persons (SMDPs). To enhance the ability of officers in handling this type of incidents, two Commanders of Patrol Sub-Units Chen Kai and Chong Kin-fan, under the guidance of Training and Staff Relations Officer, conducted an in-depth study of the relevant orders and guidelines of the Force. They compiled a training package, including a one-page action checklist on the points to note in attending to SMDPs, and spoke on the topic during training days.

The participants held group discussions and raised many good suggestions to enhance the technology as well as skills and knowledge of frontline officers in handling SMDPs. An e-survey conducted after the training noted that 98 per cent of the respondents considered the training package useful and relevant to their work.
