The "Cyber's Got Talent Carnival" was organised by the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) on March 3, with the participation of over 800 students, teachers and parents. The carnival aimed to encourage young people to work with the Police in safeguarding the cyber space.

Officiating at the kick-off ceremony, Acting Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Yip Wan-lung said that the overall law and order situation in Hong Kong continued to improve in 2018 and that the overall crime figure was the lowest since 1974. He said that, however, technology crimes showed an upward trend. He added that an increase in social media deception and online shopping fraud cases, facilitated by the use of technology, remained one of the biggest challenges of the Force in recent years. He reminded all the participants to stay vigilant to online scams and cyber threats.

The carnival was one of the highlights of the Wave II of the Cyber Security Campaign. The participants learned about the importance of computer and mobile device security through fun-filled games and practical workshops.

The campaign was launched by the CSTCB in June 2017 with the aim of increasing public awareness of cyber security and combating security threats posed by botnets. The Wave II of the campaign was rolled out in August 2018, with a focus on mobile device security. Members of the public are welcome to download and install computer cleaning software and mobile device scanning tools from the website of the campaign.
