A group of community leaders, including Chairman of the Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee Ms Chan Heung-lin, Chairman of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council Mr Ip Ngo-tung, Chairman of the Yau Tsim Mong South Area Committee Mr Yan Mou-keung and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kaifong Welfare Association Ms So Mei-tong, presented certificates of appreciation and tapestry flags to Acting Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) Commander Ma Wai-hing, Officer-in-charge Chan Ka-ying and members of District Crime Squad 1 (DCS 1) on January 25 in recognition of their outstanding performance in combating a robbery.

Last September, a gun-wielding robber raided a watch company in Tsim Sha Tsui and grabbed three watches worth $600 000 in total. Upon in-depth investigation, DCS YTDIST found that the suspect had fled to the Mainland and hence the Force notified the Ministry of Public Security (MPS). DCS YTDIST recovered the suspected air gun promptly in a refuse transfer station in Hong Kong, whereas Mainland public security officers captured the suspect in Lo Wu with all the stolen property recovered. Shenzhen Public Security Bureau handed over the suspect and the stolen property to the Force last December. The Hong Kong officers confirmed that the suspect was linked to the case and found that the gun involved was not a genuine firearm. This helped maintain law and order and bolster community confidence in the Force.
