The closing ceremony of the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) 2018/19 cum inauguration ceremony of the PMP 2019/20 took place at the Police Headquarters on May 2, with Director of Personnel and Training Li Kin-fai, Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chan Joon-sun, some other senior officers and representatives from 11 universities officiating at the event. About 400 mentors and mentees attended the activity.

Speaking at the event, Mr Li attributed the success of the PMP to the continuous support of the participating universities and mentors as well as the contribution of the Recruitment Division. He said the Force would continue to deploy more resources for the PMP to offer a variety of activities and promote knowledge exchange and experience sharing to increase the mentees' understanding of police work. He also encouraged mentees to take part in the Job Attachment Programme under the PMP to develop ties with officers of different positions, get a better idea of the challenging police work and enhance their interest in joining the Force after graduation.

The PMP has entered its 16th year. Starting from this year, experienced mentees would be invited to form the Senior Mentee Working Group to lead new mentees to learn about the PMP. This would help boost the senior mentees' participation and leadership ability. The senior mentees would be nominated by police mentors of their respective universities with reference to the mentees' performance and contribution, and then appointed by the Head Mentor. The senior mentees would assist mentors and the Recruitment Division in organising activities, and attend meetings of the PMP on behalf of the mentees.

Meanwhile, the participants reviewed the major events of the PMP in 2018/19 at the ceremony. A total of 398 undergraduates have been selected as mentees for 2019/20. One hundred and eighty-one mentors will give guidance to the mentees and share their work and life experience with the mentees. The mentees look forward to the upcoming activities, particularly the Job Attachment Programme to be held from June to August.
