In a bid to raise the public's awareness of safe cycling, Traffic New Territories North (T NTN) and Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (New Territories North Region) jointly held the "Smart Rider Safe Cycling Promotion Day cum Safe Cycling Ambassadors Appointment Ceremony" at Tin Hau Temple Fung Shui Square in Tai Po on April 7.


Officiating at the event included Senior Superintendent (T NTN) Li Chi-wai, Regional Commander of the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (New Territories North Region) Mr Lai Tin-cheung, Assistant Divisional Commander (Operations) of Tai Po Division Lau Ka-yip, Chairman of the Traffic and Transport Committee of the Tai Po District Council Dr Lau Chee-sing, Chairman of the Working Group on Road Safety Campaign and Cycling Network Development of the Tai Po District Council Mr Woo Kin-man, and Assistant Commissioner for the New Territories Command of Hong Kong St John Ambulance Brigade Ms Leung Yuk-wan.


Li Chi-wai presented certificates to over 100 primary and secondary school students, members of youth organisations and St John Ambulance Brigade for their support as Safe Cycling Ambassadors and Safe Cycling Promotion Ambassadors. The participants took an oath to work together to promote safe cycling.


The promotion day offered a rich programme of activities, including performances by the Police Dog Unit, trial bike cyclists and rope skipping players. Game booths and exhibition panels were set up for visitors. The event helped spread traffic safety messages to some 500 citizens.
