On behalf of the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC), Deputy Director 1 of HKPC Lee Chung-wah and Chief Inspector Wong Chi-kin attended the 3rd China-ASEAN and Neighbouring Countries Police Academy Presidents Forum cum Law Enforcement Capacity Building Round Table Meeting in Vientiane, Laos, between June 17 and 20.


The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China (PRC), the Ministry of Public Security of Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR), Yunnan Police College of PRC as well as the People's Police Academy of Lao PDR. More than 60 representatives from China (including Hong Kong and Macao), Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam as well as representatives of the Lanchang-Mekong River Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center attended the event.


The participants spoke on the theme of "Joint Research, Collaborative Education, Contribution, Shared Benefits - Building a Sustainable Regional Police Education Cooperation System", and discussed cooperation among police academies and police training institutes as well as ways to prevent and combat international crimes. A representative of the HKPC gave a presentation on the role of an international cooperation platform for police training institutes and expressed the HKPC's wish to enhance collaboration with other police training partners.


The 4th forum will be held in Cambodia in 2021. The HKPC will continue to maintain close liaison with its counterparts of other jurisdictions, to explore new opportunities for collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, and to strive to become a leading centre of excellence in police training and development in the international arena.
