Yuen Long District (YLDIST) held a meeting with related organisations on July 3 to discuss the emergency response co-ordination mechanism to cope with flooding incidents.

Other organisations involved were Yuen Long District Office of the Home Affairs Department, the Drainage Services Department, the Fire Services Department (FSD), the Civil Aid Service (CAS) and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute.

YLDIST Deputy District Commander Chan Hon-ming led some officers to attend the meeting. The attendees exchanged views on the current flood response mechanism and discussed ways to enhance inter-departmental co-ordination in responding to flood incidents in the rural area of Yuen Long.

The attendees decided to organise a publicity event in villages in Yuen Long, Pat Heung and Tin Shui Wai in late July with a view to raising villagers' awareness of flood emergency response. About 100 volunteers from the Force, the FSD, the CAS and the Senior Police Call as well as community leaders will spread emergency response messages to the villagers.

YLDIST will continue to strengthen partnership with other stakeholders in responding to emergencies.
