The "Project WILL Sharing cum Presentation Ceremony 2019" was jointly held by Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) and KTDIST Junior Police Call (JPC) at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on July 5. KTDIST JPC Honorary Presidents, Kwun Tong District Fight Crime Committee members and community leaders were invited to attend the ceremony with local principals, teachers and students to learn about the achievement of the participants in the project.

"Project WILL" was launched last year to align with the direction of "Connecting with Young People" in the Policy Address. Local secondary schools are invited to nominate students with potential to join the project. The participants are teamed up to organise community services according to their own "WILL". After identifying the service targets and the service area, they work out the manpower deployment plans and the implementation of the community service initiatives while officers serve as co-ordinators to give advice and provide resources to the participants.

Seven secondary schools took part in "Project WILL 2018". The participants designed and conducted community services with reference to the themes of crime prevention, road safety, home safety, racial harmony and healthy lifestyle. More than 1 000 primary school students and elders benefitted from the project.

Building on the success of the project last year, "Project WILL 2019" focused on the themes of crime prevention and road safety, and attracted the participation of nine secondary schools. The service targets were more diversified, covering not only the elderly and primary school students, but also non-ethnic Chinese, students with special educational needs and people with disabilities.

Speaking at the ceremony, District Officer (Kwun Tong) Mr Steve Tse said he was proud of the participants' achievements and praised the project for effectively connecting with young people. KTDIST Commander Chan Kwok-kee also recognised the participants' efforts in his speech. He hoped all 13 secondary schools in Kwun Tong would participate in the project next year and work with officers to serve more needy people in the community.

One of the awardees, Mr Carson Chiu from the Kwun Tong Maryknoll College, said the project enabled him to learn more about people from different community sectors, to gain more experience in planning activities and to build friendship with officers.

After the ceremony, the guests, the teachers, the students and officers took part in a bowling friendly match to share the joy of the sport.
