The Chief Secretary for Administration (CS) Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung visited the Police Headquarters (PHQ) on April 2 to learn about the anti-epidemic work of the Police.

Accompanied by Chief Superintendent of Crime Wing Support Group Tsang Yim-sheung, Mr Cheung was briefed on how the Police have made use of the Major Incident Investigation and Disaster Support System (MIIDSS) to provide effective support and assistance to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) regarding its epidemiological investigations and contact tracing of COVID-19 confirmed cases. He learnt that the Police have been liaising closely with the CHP to provide continuous support in view of the latest developments of COVID-19.

Mr Cheung then toured the MIIDSS office and met with frontline staff responsible for MIIDSS analysis. Noting that the MIIDSS and the Police’s investigative skills were essential in assisting in the tracing of the sources of infection and persons who have come into close contact with confirmed cases, Mr Cheung lauded the officers for their hard work in disease prevention.

Mr Cheung was also briefed on the Police’s anti-epidemic work on other fronts, such as locating persons in violation of the quarantine orders, combating mask scams and maintaining order in quarantine centres. Mr Cheung said that police officers have been standing steadfast in their posts and joining hands with other government departments in the fight against the epidemic. The efforts made by the Police to cut off the chain of transmission of COVID-19 were fully affirmed.
