In view of the recent upsurge of telephone deception cases, the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE) has collaborated with various partners in mounting a series of anti-telephone deception publicity campaigns.

In April, the RCPO KE partnered with Creation TV volunteers, veteran broadcaster Ms Chea Shuk-mui, artistes Ms Lo Lam and Mr Yeung Ying-wai to distribute anti-epidemic supplies and leaflets carrying anti-telephone deception messages to the elderly in Kowloon East. The RCPO KE also invited Ms Chea to record an audio clip to alert the public to prevalent modus operandi of telephone deception. The audio clip was sent to various stakeholders for circulation among elderly groups so as to heighten their vigilance against deception.

Moreover, the RCPO KE has invited artiste Mr Yeung Ming to film a video to introduce prevalent modus operandi of telephone deception and remind the public not to disclose any personal details, particularly online banking information, to suspicious callers. If members of the public receive dubious calls, they should call the “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” to seek help from the Police. To extend the reach of such messages, Mr Yeung has also agreed to post relevant materials on his social media platforms.

The video clip is available on Police Facebook page and YouTube Channel. Readers may visit the following link to view the clip:(https://www.facebook.com/HongKongPoliceForce/videos/544556292922188/).
