Auxiliary Police Headquarters
Commissioner Tang Ping-keung paid a visit to the headquarters of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force (HKAPF) on April 23, where he received a briefing from the Auxiliary Support Bureau on the work of the HKAPF and met with over 100 auxiliary officers from Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) who were receiving the Special Annual Continuation Training (SACT).
Most of the YTDIST auxiliary officers undergoing the SACT were involved in Operation TIDERIDER to perform duties including station defence as well as anti-crime patrol and sweeping. During the visit, the Commissioner highly commended an auxiliary sergeant for his selfless and courageous act in rescuing a regular officer who was hit by a petrol bomb during the operation.
The Commissioner said, “I would like to thank everybody who performed duties in Operation TIDERIDER with courage and a determined mindset. I learn that all of you would not give up your determination to serve the Force in this critical situation. I also notice that, in the past year, over 2 000 applications were received to join the HKAPF, which doubled the figure as compared to 2018. This strongly reflects that many people with righteousness would consider to spare their after-work time to uphold law and order in Hong Kong.”
The Commissioner encouraged auxiliary officers to promote the positive image of the Force through their social network, as well as to invite their friends and relatives to join the HKAPF. He also shared his view of serving Hong Kong with honour, duty and loyalty, hoping that colleagues would continue to uphold their belief and discharge their duties without fear, so as to restore peace and order to society.
Police Museum and Police College Headquarters
Commissioner Tang Ping-keung visited the Police Museum on April 20 and was briefed on the historical artefacts by the Force Curator, while a series of museum initiatives, including featured exhibits with QR codes, Virtual Reality Corner (VR Corner) and an on-site quiz, were introduced. Whilst the Commissioner appreciated the efforts of Museum staff in showcasing the police history, he highlighted the importance of heritage conservation and the use of technologies to interact with visitors.
The Commissioner then attended an open forum at the Police College Headquarters. Apart from meeting a cross section of College staff, he thanked all for their full support during Operations TIDERIDER and PINETOWER.
Meanwhile, the Police College has recently published a book titled “The Reminiscences of Police Heritage”, and its electronic version has been uploaded on Police Intranet (POINT) and Police Public Page. The book features 20 historic premises of the Force that are either declared as monuments or listed as graded historic buildings. Readers could understand more about the Force history through these police buildings and stories of the people who previously worked therein. Copies of the book have been distributed to the Resource Centres in police districts and the Force Library.
Marine Port District
Commissioner Tang Ping-keung paid a visit to Marine Port District (MPDIST) Headquarters cum Marine South Division (MSDIV) Base on April 15. Accompanied by MPDIST Commander Lau Cheng-fung, the Commissioner was briefed on the policing work of MPDIST as well as enhanced station security measures for Operation TIDERIDER by Deputy Commander of MPDIST Wong Wai-yin and Commander of MSDIV Mark Williams respectively. The Commissioner also learnt about the procedure of using police launches to carry persons who were suspected to have contracted COVID-19 and the proper use of personal protective equipment.
The Commissioner then conducted an open forum with frontline officers of MPDIST. He not only explained the future direction of policing of the Force but also responded to officers’ questions regarding Operation TIDERIDER and anti-epidemic work. Last but not the least, the Commissioner thanked the officers for their dedication to duty and hoped that they would remain steadfast in serving Hong Kong with honour, duty and loyalty.
MPDIST officers expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s visit and support. They hoped that the Force could soon restore social order under the Commissioner’s leadership.
