As a number of cases involving explosives occurred earlier, the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon West (RCPO KW) has promoted a series of publicity campaign on the theme of “Stay Vigilant to Bombs”, which is led by the Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit. Since May, RCPO KW officers have been holding seminars for frontline security staff from property management companies, residential buildings, commercial buildings, large-scale shopping malls, hotels and hospitals in the Region, with a view to enhancing their awareness of suspicious objects.

RCPO KW officers recommended the security personnel to take appropriate security measures such as implementing access security control, stepping up the patrol of emergency passage and perimeter of premises, installing high-resolution closed-circuit television systems, reducing locations possibly for placing suspicious objects, and using good quality security alarm system and locks. Officers also reminded the security personnel to pay attention to three key points when identifying suspicious objects: “Is the appearance of the object unusual?”, “Is the existence of the object foreign to area?” and “Can the owner of the object be identified?”. The participants said that the seminars had heightened their vigilance and enhanced their professional knowledge in handling suspicious objects.
