In view of a surging trend of deception cases and the possible manipulation of the newly launched Cash Payout Scheme by fraudsters to scam the public, the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE) has engaged several banks with a view to preventing the public from falling victim to deception.

In July, RCPO officers offered seminars to the staff of various banks on the latest modus operandi of telephone deception and ways to identify potential victims. Moreover, officers distributed leaflets and a new pocket-size publicity card to bank customers, particularly the elderly, with a view to raising their awareness of the prevalent modus operandi of telephone deception as well as reminding them to call the “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” of the Police if they encounter dubious calls.
