Marine Region has launched a series of new initiatives to further its engagement with the maritime community with a view to raising sea safety awareness among members of the public. Emphasis is being placed on promoting safe navigation and water sports safety, compliance with vessel licence conditions, prevention of overloading, illegal ferry services and speeding.

Patrols have been stepped up in different Speed Restricted Zones across Hong Kong this summer to deter speeding and promote the observance of safety measures and maintenance of safety equipment. In addition, the slogan of “No Safety Know Pain!” has been used in sea safety promotional materials by all divisions of Marine Region.

Besides, Marine East Division (MEDIV) has launched “Mini Mariner”, a new outreach programme for young children, to promote sea safety awareness and a professional image of the Force. The project targets primary school students and MEDIV is working in partnership with the Junior Police Call to encourage its members to join the programme.

Meanwhile, “Sea Safety Guarding Angels” of MEDIV and “Southern Cross” team of Marine South Division have spared no effort in promoting sea safety awareness. Marine Region has also been working closely with Police Public Relations Branch to produce sea safety related videos to address issues of concern via the Police Public Page and social media platforms.
