With a view to reinforcing the aviation safety and the security of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), Airport District (APTDIST) joined hands with Aviation Security Company Limited (AVSECO) to conduct a series of activities to boost the response capability of Contingency Response Unit (CRU), an AVSECO Task Force established in April 2020, in handling terrorism-related incidents and different types of public events in the airport.

Between June and September, a workshop and two exercises were organised for CRU members to enhance their knowledge and skills in conducting risk assessment on the ground and exercising of powers, including the handling of suspicious objects and uncooperative persons at the access control point. The CRU members said that the training had enhanced their understanding of relevant procedures and powers, thereby boosting their confidence in dealing with relevant incidents.

With the participation of over 100 APTDIST officers, AVSECO and CRU members, the training successfully enhanced the operational capabilities of CRU and strengthened its interoperability with APTDIST through scenario-based practical exercises and experience sharing. APTDIST will continue to engage with the airport community to ensure the HKIA remains one of the safest airports in the world.
