The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Hong Kong Island (RCPO HKI) held webinars for the University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong University Student Exchange Association on September 18 and 19 respectively, with a view to raising the crime prevention awareness of the newly-arrived overseas and Mainland students. A total of 400 students attending the webinars got an overview of common crimes in Hong Kong, the latest crime trend with an emphasis on phone scams and technology crimes, and related crime prevention advice. Participants were encouraged to download the police mobile application to receive regular updates on crime prevention and assist the Police in spreading anti-scam messages.

Positive feedback was received from the participants. In a question and answer session, a student shared her experience of receiving a scam call. The participants also commented the seminars as informative which enabled them to have a better understanding of different types of scams in Hong Kong and ways to identify and handle suspicious calls.
