Late at night on October 29, volunteers from an animal welfare organisation heard dogs barking from a small cave near the Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai. Concerned that there were abandoned puppies inside, they immediately sought help from nearby Tsim Bei Tsui Police Post.

Station Sergeant Lee from Marine West Division was on duty and he immediately referred the case to officers of Tsim Bei Tsui Sub-unit, Tin Shui Wai Division (TSWDIV). Sergeant Suen and Constable “Laser” quickly arrived at the scene to assist the volunteers. Suen turned on his torch and discovered that there were puppies trapped inside the cave. They used some snacks to entice the puppies to come out of the cave, but to no avail, as the puppies were too frightened to come out.

Using a rope from the patrol car, Suen made a lasso to try to rescue the puppies. One by one, all puppies were pulled out carefully without getting hurt, with “Laser” lending a helping hand to Suen. Their efforts were much appreciated by the volunteers. The puppies were taken for examination and found to be in good health and were later handed over to a non-governmental organisation for care and re-homing.
