In view of the upsurge in sex crimes involving children and teenagers, as well as cybercrime and narcotics-related offences, the Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit (FCSV), Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) and the Force’s Psychological Services Group conducted large-scale promotional and educational activities under the theme of child protection between November 23 and 29, including two webinars titled “Defence Against Cyber Pitfalls”, which were attended by over 800 teachers and viewed more than 20 000 times online.
Meanwhile, PPRB disseminated information related to the topic of child protection on the Force’s social media platforms, and invited artiste Ms Eileen Yeow to have a dialogue with Chief Inspector of FCSV Cheung Po-yuet during the “OffBeat On Air” programme to dissect the traps children come across most frequently in cyberspace.
Simultaneously, officers visited primary and secondary schools as well as social welfare organisations across Hong Kong, to give out leaflets and souvenirs to teachers, parents and students. Game booths and multiple rounds of talks were also organised to explain cybercrime trends and propagate the idea of protecting children.
As for interdepartmental collaborations, the Police also published information about cybercrime and child protection via the Hong Kong Education City, and underwent joint training with social workers from the Family and Child Protective Services Units of the Social Welfare Department, in order to boost their capability to investigate cases of child abuse, to ultimately help all children.
