On December 10 and 15, 2020, Marine Outer Waters District (MOWDIST) held a navigation and seamanship competition to provide a platform for MOWDIST officers to maintain high standards of maritime skills and professional knowledge and promote a culture of life-long learning and professional development.

Officers from the three divisions of the District, who have different marine qualifications, formed teams to compete against one another. Contestants were assessed in launch handling and wheelhouse organisation whilst manning two types of police launch. They also took part in a series of practical tests on chart work, rope handling and knot tying before competing in a seamanship quiz.

The competition between the teams was intense and well received by both competitors and spectators. Marine Regional Commander David Jordan and Deputy Regional Commander Lau King-lun presented the trophies to the winning teams.
