International Police Association (IPA) Photo Competition 2020 was held last year to boost friendship among police officers around the world. The event attracted overwhelming support from members who submitted their photos to contend for the prizes and honour in the Police at Work Category and Open Category.

Woman Sergeant Yuen Mei-ching, member of IPA Hong Kong Section, had submitted a photo taken at the scene of Operation TIDERIDER and titled it “Fearless”. More than 500 entries from 36 nations were received in the competition. A judging panel was formed up by the Cyprus Association of Professional Photographers. As the entries were of an extremely high standard, the panel judges stated they found it difficult to select the winners. Finally, the photo of Ms Yuen won the first runner-up in the Police at Work Category.

Her winning photo captures the moment of the Regional Response Contingent advancing in a sweep of rioters after firing tear gas. It is a true reflection of the Hong Kong Police Force’s courage and determination to restore law and order.
