Between February 23 and 24, the Police Public Engagement Office (PPEO) of the Major Incidents Bureau conducted the ninth Public Events Engagement Course to enhance the knowledge of officers from Regional Public Engagement Offices, Police Community Relations Offices and Event Management Offices on the latest socio-political dynamics and newly emerged political groups, with a view to improving their engagement techniques in handling public events.


Guest lecturers from different police units were invited to share their skills in effective engagement and the application of technology in intelligence gathering during public events. A representative of a youth service organisation was also invited to share insights into rebuilding trust with youngsters. Professor Emeritus of Department of Economics of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor Francis Lui, was also invited to share his views on the challenges in governance encountered by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the prospects of Hong Kong.


At the closing ceremony of the course, Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Chan Joon-sun presented certificates to the participants and encouraged them to stay open-minded when discharging their duties, put what they have learnt into practice and get well-equipped for future challenges.
