The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) has launched a year-long publicity campaign “Cyberthon 2021” early this year to coordinate territory-wide promotional and educational initiatives against technology crime.

Romance scams and naked chat blackmail were the themes of the campaign in February. CSTCB, in collaboration with officers of five Regional Crime Prevention Offices, District Fight Crime Committee members and Regional Crime Prevention Ambassadors, set up booths in numerous shopping malls across the territory. In order to illustrate the modus operandi of scammers to the public, CSTCB adopted the cutting-edge holographic technology to vividly recreate the persona of swindlers with three-dimensional moving images. Specially designed publicity materials, including webcam covers, were distributed to remind the public of the importance of protecting privacy.
