On April 24, Commissioner Tang Ping-keung inspected a passing-out parade of 49 Recruit Auxiliary Police Constables at the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force (HKAPF) Headquarters as the Reviewing Officer. The auxiliary members come from all walks of life, including civil servants, citizens from education and private sectors, and students who joined via the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme.

In his speech, the Commissioner reiterated the indispensable support from auxiliary members in safeguarding Hong Kong since 1914. In the face of major public order challenges, auxiliary members would often come forward to assist in performing watch and ward duties so regular officers could focus on restoring social order. Auxiliary members’ contribution to maintaining law and order in Hong Kong is the best reflection of their commitment to serving society.

Since Operation TIDERIDER, an average of 660 auxiliary members have reported on duty daily, and the turnout rate has increased threefold compared to that prior to the social unrest. Currently, an average of nearly 800 auxiliary members report on duty daily. They play a vital role in supporting various police districts with more diverse deployment, such as report room duties, licence checks and bicycle patrol. Auxiliary members serve as a solid backup for regular officers, fully demonstrating their comradeship.

The Commissioner finally encouraged the graduates to continue protecting Hong Kong and safeguarding national security with “Honour, Duty and Loyalty”, enriching the glorious history of the HKAPF in serving Hong Kong.
