Since November 2019, the Social Media Communication Section of the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) has started to deploy the Police Social Media Live Team to conduct live broadcasts of large-scale public events, in hopes of enabling citizens to gain a better understanding of the actual scenarios encountered by frontline officers, so as to enhance transparency in police work and increase public confidence in the Police.

PPRB regularly organises training days for the team. Apart from sharing with the team members the objectives of the live broadcasts, the difficulties faced by officers at the scene and the filming techniques required, PPRB also offers them an opportunity to experience operating the filming equipment. Since July 2020, as part of the training, PPRB has arranged for the team members to participate in joint exercises with the Police Tactical Unit, in order to gear them up for different operational challenges ahead by putting them through more realistic drills.

PPRB will continue to make full use of social media to conduct live broadcasts, to bring facts and truth to the public.
