On March 26, officers of District Anti-triad Squad 1 of Tai Po District (DATS 1 TPDIST) received a report of criminal damage case where the exterior of a flat was splashed with red paint. Officers swiftly identified the suspect and arrested a teenage culprit a day after receiving the report.

As the arrested person (AP) was only 14 years old, officers followed the protocol and informed his family to accompany the AP in making statements at the police station to protect his rights. In the process, officers also comforted the AP’s mother to ease her worry. In the course of the investigation, officers found out that the AP suffers from mild autism, so they communicated with him with patience. The AP expressed remorse and admitted his wrongdoing. He confessed the details of the incident to officers and promised to never make the same mistake again. Meanwhile, the AP’s mother expressed her appreciation to officers for their professionalism.

Officers were glad that the AP had learnt from his mistake. The praise from the AP’s mother also brought officers great satisfaction. Officers will continue to handle each case with professionalism to maintain the Force’s positive image and enhance public confidence and trust.
